How to share a screen recording as a link

Screen recordings are usually too large to attach to an email or chat. The easiest way to share one is to upload it and send a link. With BaseShot, you click Upload and copy link after recording, and the link is on your clipboard. Viewers watch in their browser without installing anything.

With BaseShot

  1. Download and open BaseShot. It runs from the system tray on Windows and the menu bar on Mac.
  2. Click the BaseShot icon and choose Record Screen. Pick an area, window, or display, then click Start Recording.
  3. Click Done when you finish. A preview of the recording appears in the corner of your screen.
  4. Click the link button (Upload and copy link) on the preview. BaseShot uploads the recording and copies the link.
  5. Paste the link into an email, Slack, a ticket, or a document.

Sharing links are part of BaseShot Cloud ($6 per person a month). The first time, BaseShot asks you to sign in and opens checkout if you don’t have Cloud yet.

Edit before you share

To trim the recording, adjust zooms, or add captions first:

  1. Click Edit on the preview to open the recording in the editor.
  2. Make your changes, then click Export recording.
  3. Under Destination, choose Shareable link, then click Create link.

Control who can watch

Open your library at baseshot.io/cloud, click More options on a recording, and choose Privacy Settings:

  • Anyone with link: anyone you send it to can watch.
  • Password protected: viewers need a password you set.
  • Team members only: only people in your BaseShot team can watch.
  • Only me: nobody else can open it.

Comment Settings in the same menu sets who can comment. To delete links automatically after a while, turn on Self destruct in Cloud settings.

Other ways to share a recording

  • Upload the file to Google Drive, OneDrive, or Dropbox and share its link. This works, but viewers may need to download the file or sign in, and you can’t see comments on a specific moment.
  • Attach it to an email. Gmail limits attachments to 25 MB, so this only works for very short clips.
