How to take a scrolling screenshot on Windows
The Windows Snipping Tool only captures what is visible on screen. To capture a long page, chat, or document in one image, use an app with scrolling capture, such as BaseShot (free), or a browser’s full-page screenshot for web pages.
With BaseShot
Works in any app that scrolls, not just browsers.
- Download and open BaseShot. It runs from the system tray.
- Click the BaseShot icon in the system tray and choose Scrolling Capture.
- Drag to select only the area that scrolls. Leave fixed headers, sidebars, and scrollbars outside the selection.
- Scroll down or right slowly and steadily, or use Auto scroll to let BaseShot scroll for you.
- Click Done. BaseShot stitches everything into one image and opens it in the editor.
- Add arrows, text, or redaction if you need them, then copy or save it as a PNG.
Tip: set your own shortcut for Scrolling Capture in Settings → Shortcuts to start it from the keyboard.
For web pages in Microsoft Edge
- Open the page in Edge and press Ctrl + Shift + S to open Web capture.
- Choose Capture full page.
- Copy or save the result.
This only works for web pages in Edge, not for other apps.
Tips for a clean scrolling screenshot
- Start at the top or far left of the content.
- Scroll in one direction only, and do not scroll backward once you start.
- Pause videos and animations, since moving content can look wrong in the final image.
- Select only the scrollable area so fixed toolbars are not repeated.
